What Students Are Saying about Alessandra Beraldi

The first class went very well. Our Italian teacher Alessandra is humorous and interesting in class. After a few classes with her, I found out she is good at expressing the complex and difficult process formulas clearly and in a concise language. The lectures are compact and rich, with a large number of examples and exercises, which is very helpful for beginners students to master the classroom content in a short period of time.

She always says, l’italiano è facile, that means, to learn Italian with joy and happiness! I think I got the most passionate learning spirit from her!" - Francesca Metaxas

Class: Kathy Freschi - Intermediate/Advanced Italian Literature

Wednesday, November 6, 2019 - 10:00am
photo of Italian teacher Kathy Freschi

Six Wednesdays  • Nov 6 – Dec 11 • 10:00am-12:00pm  • $200

The class will read Contesa per un Maialino Italianissimo a San Salvario by Amara Lakhous. Gino, a “pure Piedmontese” piglet, belongs to Joseph, a Nigerian immigrant living in Turin. Unfortunately, Gino has been filmed running around inside the local mosque. How does the neighbor, Enzo Laganà, a Southern Italian journalist, figure in to this potentially explosive situation? Amara Lakhous, a master commentator on multicultural issues in today’s Italy, makes us laugh at the clash of cultures, once again.

Kathy Freschi has been teaching Italian for over 40 years at UC Santa Barbara, UC Berkeley and College of Marin. In 1987, she founded the Credit Program of Italian at College of Marin, for which she was awarded La Stella d’Italia by the Republic of Italy.
