Special Story Time Guest: Kara Navolio - Everybody Can Dance! (Corte Madera Store)

Monday, June 3, 2019 - 9:30am

Everybody Can Dance! shows children of all cultures experiencing the joy of dance together. Children with disabilities tap a beat alongside others swinging to ballroom or bouncing to Bollywood. The fun, rhyming text will have any child asking for a repeat performance. This book can be a springboard for discussing how much we are all the same, how dance is fun for everyone, and how everybody can do it!

Kara Navolio is a children’s book author and freelance writer. Her debut picture book Everybody Can Dance! celebrates the joy of dance with a message of inclusion and shows children that no matter what you look like, your physical ability or style, everybody can dance! When she isn’t writing for children, Kara tells stories of real-life heroes, artists and authors for local newspapers. Kara has been working with children since her college days at UC Berkeley.  When she had her own two children she volunteered in their classrooms and at their schools for 16 years. Currently she is a docent at The Bedford Gallery in Walnut Creek where she takes school children on tours and teaches art in local schools. Kara is a member of Andrea Alban’s Writer’s Tribe and Book Passage’s Path to Publishing program. She loves to read, travel, take photographs, paint, hike, dance, cook, and spend time with her family. She lives in Walnut Creek, California with her husband and every day makes it a goal to learn something new.

Roseanne Parry - A Wolf Called Wander (Corte Madera Store)

Friday, July 12, 2019 - 7:00pm

Special Event for Kids!

Swift, a young wolf cub, lives with his pack in the mountains learning to hunt, competing with his brothers and sisters for hierarchy, and watching over a new litter of cubs. Then a rival pack attacks, and Swift and his family scatter. Alone and scared, Swift must flee and find a new home. The trip is full of peril, and Swift encounters forest fires, hunters, highways, and hunger before he meets a mate and they start a new pack of their own.

Inspired by the extraordinary true story of a wolf named OR-7 (or Journey), who traveled a remarkable one thousand miles across the Pacific Northwest, A Wolf Called Wander is an irresistible tale of survival. It invites readers to experience and imagine what it would be like to be one of the most misunderstood animals on earth.

Rosanne Parry has spent a lifetime hiking and camping in Oregon’s wilderness and has come to love it’s wide-ranging landscapes and wild creatures (except perhaps for the banana slug) Rosanne is the author of Heart of a Shepherd, Last of the Name, and three other award-winning novels for middle grade readers. She is the captain of the League of Exceptional Writers, a free mentoring workshop for young avid readers and writers, sponsored by the Oregon SCBWI and Powells Bookstore. She is a bookmonger at the legendary indie bookstore Annie Blooms of Portland Oregon, and she writes in a treehouse in her backyard. You can find Rosanne at www.rosanneparry.com
