Kids & Community

Kids and community; community and kids
To us, Kids & Community are inseparable. Most of our community programs are tied in with children and schools. We love nothing better than working with the next generation of readers and writers. Over the years, Book Passage has given many thousands of dollars to local schools through our School-Link program, thousands more through school book fairs, and still more through the Giving Tree  programs.

The Giving Tree

Thanks to our customers’ generosity, the Book Passage Giving Tree Program has been able to give over a 1,000 books per year to children in need throughout the Bay Area.

Please donate to the Giving Tree Program through our website, and the Book Passage staff will choose the books and match them up with a child in the program. Or you are invited to come into one of our stores and pick a tag from one of our Giving Trees at the registers and choose a book to donate to that child.   Click here to find out more about this program.

INK is a book groups designed for avid readers and writers from age 8-12. It’s a lively group that meets to plot, illustrate, and write books. When they’re not writing their own books, they are writing book reviews, discussing books, and inviting authors to come speak to them. The members of the INK team are the authors of Dragon Mist, Dragon Fire, and Dragon Island. Right now, this group is busy finishing up its latest book. When that’s done, they would love to welcome some new members!

Book Passage would love to work with your school to provide programs for both students and teachers. Here are a few of the things we can do. (For more information, please contact Mari Allen, mallen@bookpassage.com)

Book Chats
Our Children's Team is happy to provide a book chat for your school. This might be for the whole school or maybe a specific group, such as a classroom, PTA. or staff. Our Book Chats are curated to your school and the requests from your group. We work with you to design a program that reflects your school while introducing your audience to the newest in children's and adult literature. Recently, our book chats have been online, but as schools re-open we can begin to arrange book chats in the school.

Author Events
We are always thrilled to introduce our young readers to new authors. Sometimes we can arrange events with some of the kids’ long-time favorite authors. These events are often hosted online, but as schools fully re-open we can arrange some events in the school itself. Our Children's Team can also send you a school-specific link, and will allow families to make book purchases and direct a portion of their purchases to the benefit of the school.

Book Fairs
We are now working on a new program that will allow us to re-start our program of school book fairs in the store. If your school is interested in one of these exciting events, please let us know.

School and Classroom-Library Book Orders
We are happy to arrange bulk purchases of a book or a group of books for your school and classrooms. Our Team works directly with teachers, classroom librarians, curriculum coordinators, and parents to select and order the books. We are often able to provide a substantial discount on these types of bulk orders.

Teacher Discounts
Book Passage offers a 20% discount on all books purchased by teachers for your school or classroom.

If your school is one of the many participating in the Book Passage School-Link Program, you can make sure that your school benefits from every purchase you make at Book Passage. Just mention the name of your school at the time of purchase, and a portion of the proceeds will go towards the programs of your favorite school. For more information, go to School-Link program
