In honor of the late, great Andrea Camilleri, we will read one of his early works, La Stagione della Caccia, which takes place in Sicily in the 1880s. It is a precursor to his later Montalbano series. It provides a look at Sicily of the 1880s plus a basis for the nascent genre of detective novels in that area. Students can simultaneously watch a YouTube film of this work. Students are asked to read the first twenty pages of the book in advance of the first class meeting.

Kathy Freschi has taught Italian for over 40 years at UC Santa Barbara, UC Berkeley and College of Marin.
