Mo Welch with Irene Tu - How to Die Alone (San Francisco Store)

Wednesday, April 24, 2019 - 6:00pm

Event includes an exclusive raffle! See below for details.

There’s an entire industry built on the idea of helping people to push hard and succeed in love, work, fitness, and finances. But what about those people who would so much rather stay home and eat pizza with the cat while binge-watching Netflix? Who’s telling them that it’s OK to be a couch potato?

Blair, that’s who. The creation of cartoonist and stand-up comic Mo Welch, Blair is the awkward, self-deprecating, totally relatable anti-heroine who already has 65,000 followers on Instagram and an animated show on TBS Digital. Now Blair is the face, the voice, and the attitude of How to Die Alone, the perfect self-help book for not helping yourself—and a funny, irreverent gift for millennials struggling to “adult.”

Forget winning friends and influencing people—here’s advice on how to win the Worst Friend Award instead, including: Always be late, never offer to drive (anywhere), and treat your friend’s kitchen like an open bar. Plus the ins and outs of terrible dates, permission to eat cookies instead of going to the gym, and how to treat your job like the inconvenience that it is. It’s the genuinely funny, tongue-in-cheek guide to just saying no.

Mo Welch is a stand-up comedian and cartoonist based in LA. She has opened for Dana Carvey, Jason Sudeikis, Nick Kroll, and Judd Apatow. In January 2018, she appeared on CONAN and her 10-part animated series BLAIR debuted on TBS Digital. She starred in Foul Ball on CBS, Hulu’s Coming To The Stage, and appeared in season two of Amazon’s Gortimer Gibbon’s Life on Normal Street and season two of Life in Pieces on CBS. She has worked as a writer for Nickelodeon, TBS, and CBS.  Today, Mo runs a live talk show called "The Mo Show" at The Virgil on the third Tuesday of the month. Previous guests include Rachel Bloom, Cecily Strong, Tom Wilson, Rich Fulcher, and that guy that walks around Hollywood dressed as Jesus. The Chicago Reader called her “hysterically brilliant” and Splitsider called her “impossibly cool”. Along with her comics, she was featured on BuzzFeed, The A.V. Club, Serial Optimist, and is a regular comics contributor to Hello Giggles and BuzzFeed. Mo lives with her wife, Sam, in Los Angeles, California and is hoping to add a cat to their family circle. You can most often find her illustrating during the day, performing stand-up at night, and reading comics in-between.

Irene Tu is a Chicago-born, San Francisco-based stand-up comedian, actor, and writer. In 2017, the San Francisco Chronicle singled her out as an “artist on the brink of fame,” on the heels of being named one of the “Bay Area’s 11 Best Stand Up Comedians” (SFist) and one of 20 “Women to Watch” (KQED). She has performed at numerous festivals including SF Sketchfest, Comedy Central’s Clusterfest, RIOT LA, Bridgetown Comedy Festival, and Outside Lands. Irene has opened for comedians such as Anthony Jeselnik, W. Kamau Bell, Brian Posehn, Gary Gulman, Judah Friedlander, Hari Kondabolu, and Aparna Nancherla. You can see her on season 2 of Take My Wife and on VICELAND’s Funny How?
