Michael Banks - Gotta Kidney?! (Sausalito)

Tuesday, September 12, 2017 - 6:00pm

Gotta Kidney?! tells the story of the last five years of Michael Banks's life. It describes his journey from diagnosis, through kidney failure, dialysis, a kidney transplant operation to recovery. It is also a love story. His beloved Karin was the living donor who donated one of her kidneys to Michael to keep him alive. (She has a chapter in the book that tells her story from the perspective of what one goes through as a donor).

The purpose of the book is to give hope and encouragement to the hundreds of millions of people around the world who are affected directly or indirectly by kidney disease. It provides a roadmap of what to expect. There are over 30 million people in America alone who have CKD (Chronic Kidney Disease) and over 90% of those don’t even know they have it! The book is an easy read and should appeal to all levels of readers. As far as Michael knows there is no other book out there that tells the full story of what it’s like to go through this kind of experience. And even those who have not been affected by kidney problems will find the lessons and insights inside the book helpful as they deal with their own life changing challenges.

Michael Banks graduated from Reading University, Berkshire with a BA in English Language and Literature and a Postgraduate degree in Education. He was a former senior partner in America’s leading Executive Coaching firm, KRW International, in the mid 90s. Michael has performed spoken word pieces to the accompaniment of live music in local venues at Mill Valley, CA as well as Captaining Marin Cricket Club's Social Team for the past ten years. In 2012 he was diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) which begins the story of Gotta Kidney?!.
