His research was recently been featured on NPR’s “Morning Edition,” will be the topic of a PBS Special on gut microbiota brain interactions in the “Natural Health Breakthroughs with Brenda Watson” series, and was the subject of his Ted Talk, “The mysterious origins of gut feelings.”

Stanford University’s Justin and Erica Sonnenburg are pioneers in the most exciting and potentially transformative field in the entire realm of human health and wellness, the study of the relationship between our bodies and the trillions of organisms representing thousands of species to which our bodies play host, the microbes that we collectively call the microbiota. Her research focuses on the role of diet on the human gut microbiota. She has published several peer-reviewed articles in well-respected scientific journals about her studies on the gut microbiota. She is the co-author of  book The Good Gut: Taking Control of Your Weight, Your Mood, and Your Long-term Health.
 
Justin Sonnenburg, Ph.D. is an associate professor in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the Stanford University School of Medicine. In 2009, he was the recipient of an NIH Director’s New Innovator Award. His laboratory at Stanford focuses on the role of the human gut microbiota on health. He is the co-author of the book The Good Gut: Taking Control of Your Weight, Your Mood, and Your Long-term Health.
