Courtney Spain Aragon - Fraydo The Dragon (Corte Madera)

Special Children's Book Week Event

This fun and humorous picture book follows Fraydo the Dragon and his friend Pee Wee on an adventure to solve Fraydo's BIG Problem --- he thinks he is a dog! And Fraydo just cannot keep out of trouble. The villagers, however, are fed up with his antics. But soon, Pee Wee and Fraydo figure out the root of the problem. And it turns out Fraydo the Dragon needs eyeglasses. From that moment on the world becomes crystal clear to Fraydo. Now, with eyeglasses, Fraydo the Dragon can see where he is walking, play safely with friends, read street signs clearly, and play his favorite game -- Fetch -- better than ever!

In this first book, Fraydo the Dragon represents the majority of children who are not even aware that their vision is compromised. The book plays out the academic, behavioral and social consequences associated with Fraydo's poor vision. This book and corresponding discussion guide will help children build upon their own self-awareness to problem solve for themselves. And in this case, speak up about the health of their own vision.

All her life, Courtney Spain Aragon has been a storyteller. A good story can bring the past to the present. It can ignite the imagination revealing possible futures. It can give courage and hope as a way forward. Or simply provide comfort and love. For her, creating stories for children is one of the most important ways she can give back to the world and truly make a difference.
