Corte Madera in-person class
Art Historian Kerrin Meis wants to share with the community her enthusiasm for that sunny slice of intoxicating beauty that is, after all, not just beaches, yacht harbors, and celebrities. It is also unforgettable architecture, painting, and sculpture housed in medieval castles, luxurious villas, chapels, bar and restaurant walls, and some of the finest museums extant.
We will visit:
- Cassis, the prettiest village on the Riviera
- Antibes, home to the huge Picasso Museum, with some of his most fascinating masterpieces
- Cagnes sur Mer, where August Renoir spent the last twelve years of his life
- Nice, so fascinating to Henri Matisse, Raoul Dufy, Marc Chagall, to visit the Matisse and Chagall Museums and, yes, The Russian Orthodox Church. also the bar at the Hotel Negresco plastered with art work.
- Vence, the village itself a work of art and St. Paul de Vence to experience The Chapel of the Rosary created by Matisse and the astonishing Rothschild Villa Ephrussi, with its art and period furniture-filled rooms and nine distinct gardens to explore
- Lunch at the Hotel La Colombe d'Or, favorite haunt of Picasso, Braque, and friends with their outwork on the walls
- The recently reopened Maeght Foundation designed by Catalan architect Josep Lluis Sert for Aime and Marguerite Maeght in 1964 displays paintings by everyone from Pierre Bonnard and Fernand Leger, and Wassily Kandinsky to Joan Mitchell and sculpture gardens such as that of Georges Braque, the Joan Miro Labyrinth, as well as the Alberto Giacometti Garden. With over 12,000 pieces it is considered the number one private collection of 20th and 21st century art in Europe. And as it is in France, it has a lovely restaurant.
Join us for this complimentary class to see why Kerrin’s monthly Book Passage classes are so popular and experience the magic that she brings to our community.
