What is a Mock Caldecott?

The Caldecott Medal is the most important award given to illustrated children’s books, presented each year by the American Library Association. This afternoon of wine and discussion will cover the criteria by which the Caldecott committee judges books for this prestigious award, and offers a fun, hands-on experience as we discuss and vote on some of the year’s best illustrated books.

Attendees must complete the reading ahead of time. The reading list is available on our website and will be emailed to participants who register for the program. All books will be available for purchase at Book Passage.  

Ariel Richardson is an Editor in Children's at Chronicle Books in San Francisco. She primarily edits board books, picture books, and formats / novelty, working on titles like Bunny Slopes, This Is How We Do It, Crescent Moons and Pointed Minarets, and Masha and Her Sisters. She loves books with a global perspective, books about religious literacy and intersectionality, books that celebrate the power of the imagination, and books that push the boundaries of traditional bookmaking. She’s a children’s bookseller in her spare time, and has a master’s degree in Children’s Literature from Simmons College.
