James Jacques Joseph Tissot was a French artist  best known for his paintings of fashionably dressed women in elegant settings first in France, then in London. Friendships with Morisot, Degas, and Manet had little influence on his style which is highly descriptive & realistic. We will study his life and career, including his affair with Kathleen Newton, & his late works embracing Biblical Subjects including a Life of Christ.

Kerrin Meis taught art history at SFSU for ten years, and she currently teaches for the OLLI programs at Dominican University and UC Berkeley. She leads study tours in Europe. Her Book Passage classes have been big favorites for years.
