Class: Kerrin Meis - Sargent: Portraits of Friends & Artists

Friday, November 13, 2015 - 10:00am

Two Fridays: Nov. 13 & Nov. 20 • 10:00 am – 12:00 pm • $75

We examine American painter John Singer Sargent’s international career through over sixty brilliant portraits of members of his artistic circle including family, artists, writers, actors and musicians. While some are formal portraits many are small, intimate, noncommissioned works that provide a record of influences, relationships and aspirations. Cast of characters includes Monet, Rodin, Ellen Terry, Gabriel Faure, Henry James, Robert Louis Stevenson, the influential Pailleron family and Isabella Stewart Gardner—a veritable network of artists and muses.

Kerrin Meis taught art history at SFSU for ten years and now lectures for the College of Marin and Dominican University and leads study tours in Europe. Her Book Passage classes have been big favorites for years.
