Two Fridays: July 12, 19 • 10:30 am – 12:30 pm • $75

As the age of Enlightenment immolated itself in the flames of the American and French Revolutions, Romanticism emerged as the cult of the individual – of sensibility over reason. Abandoning heroic, rhetorical themes, artists escaped reality, reveling in the infinite, in exotic lands, in dreams, in suicide, and in the dark terror of the psyche. We will study artists in France, England, Switzerland, Germany, and Goya in Spain.

Kerrin Meis taught art history at SFSU for ten years, and she leads study tours in Europe. Her Book Passage classes have been favorites for years.
