Often ignored by visitors, special exhibitions are superb examples of European art housed in the California Palace of the Legion of Honor. From Medieval sculpture and painting through the nineteenth century we will look closely at works by Rembrandt, Van Dyck, El Greco, Titian, Fra Angelico, Jan Steen, Pieter de Hooch, Tiepolo, Watteau, Vigee-Lebrun, Daumier, Corot, Manet, Renoir, Monet, Pissarro and Rodin. We begin with the history of the institution -its founders and benefactors including Alma de Bretteville Spreckels.
Kerrin Meis taught art history at SFSU for ten years, and she currently teaches for the OLLI programs at Dominican University and UC Berkeley. She leads study tours in Europe. Her Book Passage classes have been big favorites for years.
