If you’ve ever fantasized about creating your own graphic comic strip, but haven’t mastered drawing, this class is for you. The graphic narrative form is becoming an increasingly popular medium in our visually-oriented digital world. Thanks to digital technology, people can create their own comic strips by putting photos through a filter.

Journalist, writer and “selfie” comic strip artist Jenny Jedeikin will teach students how to produce their own personal narrative stories in this four-session class. Using digital technology, participants will invent comic strips that tell poignant and whimsical stories about their lives. Students will be introduced to the format, write narratives for their stories, learn to take and edit photos for comics, and put their ideas together to create their first original comic strip.

LEARN TO CREATE YOUR OWN SELFIE COMIC is designed to teach writers and creatives of all levels how to tell their stories using photographs, dialogue, interior voice, and narration to complete a comic strip.

The four part class will include:

  • Introduction to the form of graphic narrative strip
  • In class generative writing exercises to explore content for your story
  • Tips on how to create photographs and gather images
  • Techniques for putting the elements of your strip together using simple software
  • Guidance on how to refine and edit your comic to engage an audience

This class is open to all levels of writers and will include in-class exercises to amplify the creative process and dive into self expression.

PLEASE NOTE: This class requires students to download easy-to-use $30 software. Students must have access to computers at home. Laptops are not necessary, but students who own laptops have the option to bring them into class for additional support.
