1st Hour: How to Survive NaNoWriMo/Write Nonfiction in November

They say April is the cruelest month—but that was before the Office of Letters and Light declared November as National Novel Writing Month.  Along with companion session Write Nonfiction in November (WNFIN), NaNoWriMo is 30 days of literary focus (or frenzy) as participants endeavor to get 50,000 words (or a complete nonfiction first draft) out of the brain and onto paper. Join CWC members who have navigated the NaNoWriMo/WNFIN process for tips on how to rack up words while finding time to shower in a month that also includes turkey, stuffing, and family feuds.

2nd Hour: Build Your Own Writing Group with Vicki Hudson

Sure, you’ve heard about critique groups—maybe even been in a couple—but do you want to know a bit more about how they work? Have you wanted to start one but aren’t sure how? Curious how you find the right mix—and the ideal number—of members? How do you handle difficult members? What are the signs that the group has run its course—and what do you do then? Join Vicki Hudson, author of No Red Pen, to learn more about how to start a group, take on members, and manage the submission/review process.  Get insights about group dynamics, and more! Come prepared to talk about your own writing group experience—and maybe even get a few new groups started in the process!

Join us at 1:00 pm for The Opening Act + Refreshments

This month: Pitch your book or story, and (optional) get feedback. Come prepared to describe your project in one minute or less.

Not a member, but want to come to opening act? Ask John Byrne ( for a one-time pass—and learn more about our club.

CWC is a great place to improve your craft, no matter what level you are at. Benefits include meeting local authors, agents, and publishers and creating critique groups with like-minded writers. Our meetings feature speakers,  workshops, and networking.
