Children's Book Specialist

Job Description: As the Children's Book Specialist you will play a pivotal role in curating and promoting a diverse selection of children's books. You will be responsible for creating a welcoming and inspiring space for children and families to explore the magic of literature. You will help curate our selection of Children’s books to suit the needs of the community and helping our staff and customers identify the perfect books for these young readers.  If you have a passion for children's literature this role is your opportunity to make a significant impact on the future of young readers.

Key Responsibilities:

1.     Book Curation:

·Help our buying team curate an up-to-date collection of children's books, including picture books, middle-grade novels, and young adult titles.

·Stay current with trends in children's literature and education, ensuring the bookstore offers the latest and most relevant titles.

·Help local school librarians and teachers select books.

2.     Customer Engagement and Service:

·Provide exceptional customer service, assisting parents, educators, and young readers in selecting the perfect books.

·Work with our events team to help identify and host worthwhile author events for children and young adults.

·Collaborate with local book clubs and reading programs to foster a sense of community and excitement around reading.

3.     Visual Merchandising:

·Create appealing displays and arrange books in an enticing and accessible manner to stimulate children's interest in reading.

·Create and rotate seasonal and holiday displays throughout the year.

·Maintain a visually engaging and organized store environment.

4.     Staff Management:

·Help all staff remain updated on the top books we are promoting for children and young people.

 

5.     Marketing and Promotion:

 

·Work with our marketing team to utilize social media, email campaigns, and community outreach to promote the bookstore's events and offerings.

Qualifications:

  • A deep passion for children's literature.
  • Experience in bookselling, libraries, schools or a related field is a plus.
  • Exceptional customer service skills and the ability to connect with children and their caregivers.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A creative eye for visual merchandising and store displays.
  • A commitment to creating a warm and inviting environment for children and families.

Part-Time Children's Bookseller

We offer a wide range of children's books, from picture books to young adult novels, and provide a welcoming and engaging environment for families to explore the world of literature. We are currently looking for a passionate and enthusiastic Part-Time Children's Bookseller to join our team and help young readers discover the joy of books.

Job Description:

Position Overview: As a Part-Time Children's Bookseller, you will play a vital role in creating a positive and memorable experience for young readers and their families. Your main responsibilities will include assisting customers, recommending age-appropriate books, organizing and maintaining the children's section, and contributing to the overall success of our store.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Customer Assistance: Greet and assist customers in a friendly and helpful manner. Provide book recommendations tailored to children's age and interests.
  2. Product Knowledge: Develop a strong knowledge of the store's inventory of children's books, staying up to date with new releases and bestsellers.
  3. Organization: Maintain a clean, organized, and visually appealing children's book section, including shelving and displaying books attractively.
  4. Cashier Duties: Operate the cash register, handle transactions accurately, and process payments efficiently.
  5. Events and Storytime: Assist in organizing and participating in children's book-related events, such as storytime sessions and author visits.
  6. Inventory Management: Help with receiving and restocking inventory, tracking sales trends, and recommending restocking needs.
  7. Customer Engagement: Promote reading and literacy through engaging conversations, book clubs, and reading recommendations for young readers.
  8. Customer Orders: Assist customers in placing special orders for books that are not in stock.

Qualifications:

  • Passion for children's literature and a strong commitment to promoting literacy and a love of reading in young children.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Friendly, approachable, and able to work effectively in a team.
  • Basic computer and point-of-sale system proficiency.
  • Organized, with strong attention to detail.
  • Prior experience in a retail or bookstore environment is a plus.

Schedule: This is a part-time position, and the schedule may vary based on the needs of the store. Flexibility to work weekends is required.

Book Passage Cafe Barista

JOB DESCRIPTION

Hey Barista! Book Passage Café is looking for you!

ABOUT YOU:

  • You love taking good care of customers and love good quality coffee.
  • You are energetic, willing to learn and are a team player.
  • You are responsible and will share ideas for always improving the café and our service.
  • You will make fresh coffee and coffee drinks and serve customers with kindness.
  • You’ll serve soups, quiche, salads and other yummy foods.
  • You will accept payment for all drinks, food and service.
  • You will participate in keeping the café and kitchen clean and up to sanitary standards.
  • You either have or will get a food handlers’ license.

Experience:

  • Guest services: 1 year (Required)
  • Barista experience: 1 year (Required)
  • Food service: 1 year (Preferred)

 

ABOUT US:

  • Our barista job is fun, and you get to engage with customers who love to read (and drink coffee and eat)
  • We offer a flexible part or full time schedule. Our cafe is open from 10AM-6PM - no crazy early or late hours! Weekday and weekend hours needed.
