Enhancing Craft is a 6-week interactive seminar targeting the fundamentals of craft applied to your creative writing projects. Focusing on characterization, points of view, narration and dialogue, participants will be inspired by reading masters of the craft, and along with fellow writers, work to enhance their skills. Each class provides two in-session writing activities and participant feedback to promote encouragement and motivation.

Cathy Rath is currently a professor at SFSU and a professional writing coach.

In this workshop, we'll use sensory prompts to help us tap into memory and story for vivid imagery and detail. With instruction and techniques from Laura's book, Writing from the Senses, you’ll never have to stare at a blank page or computer screen again. We'll practice awareness of the five senses, plus motion and intuition — and learn how to write about the senses in our authentic voice. This workshop includes creative writing exercises and feedback, along with meditation to awaken awareness, spark creativity and make our writing come alive.

For writers of all levels.

Laura Deutsch helps writers and others create meaningful legacies in their lives. Her book, Writing from the Senses, was published by Shambhala and her work has appeared in the LA Times, SF Chronicle and PsychologyToday.com. Laura leads master classes from Tassajara to Tuscany, and has taught writing at UC Berkeley and San Francisco State.
