Writing Classes

In this workshop, students will study the components of personal essay through lecture and writing exercises and will learn how to structure and craft creative nonfiction in a way that is both joyful and rewarding. Victoria Zackheim wrote The Bone Weaver and has edited five anthologies. She wrote the documentary "Where Birds Never Sang," which aired on PBS.

Make space for your writing. Making commitments and setting goals is one way to find the consistency you need. The habit of writing is what helps us access our creativity. Use the support of other writers and Keenan's guidance and techniques to keep moving forward.

Sat., Nov. 23 • 10:00-2:00pm • $55

 The concept is simple: no essay works if the opening paragraph is weak. In this course, we’ll work on that introductory paragraph until it’s compelling, and only then will we move on to the body of the piece. There’s always resistance to this process—students hate going back over and over to revise one paragraph—but the ones who complain loudest are always the ones who say it changes their entire writing process.

Writers sit a lot—quietly. Little movement, little sound. In this workshop of discovery and surprise, you will access images and ideas catalyzed by movement and/or voice. Drawing on my decades in theatre, the arts, and various movement modalities, Nina Solomita leads students to writing with enlivened bodies and oxygenated brains. Dare to explore the treasures of your imagination in new ways.
