Jacques Pépin - Jacques Pépin Heart and Soul in the Kitchen

Monday, October 12, 2015 - 7:00pm

Please note: online ticket sales have closed. Tickets will be available at the door.

In conversation with Tyler Florence

Angelico Hall, Dominican University
Tickets: $45 (Includes Signed Book)

In the companion book to his final PBS series, world-renowned chef Jacques Pépin shows his close relationship to the land and sea as he cooks for close friends and family. Jacques Pépin Heart & Soul in the Kitchen is an intimate look at the celebrity chef and the food he cooks at home with family and friends. There are the simple dinners Jacques prepares for his wife, like the world's best burgers (the secret is ground brisket). There are elegant dinners for small gatherings, with tantalizing starters like Camembert cheese with a pistachio crust and desserts like little foolproof chocolate soufflés. And there are the dishes for backyard parties, including grilled chicken tenderloin in an Argentinean chimichurri sauce. Spiced with reminiscences and stories, this book reveals the unorthodox philosophy of the man who taught millions how to cook, revealing his frank views on molecular gastronomy, the locovore movement, Julia Child and James Beard, on how to raise a child who will eat almost anything, and much, much more. For both longtime fans of Jacqués and those who are discovering him for the first time, this is a must-have cookbook.

Tyler Florence is a Food Network star, author of twelve books, product designer, and the chef-owner of Wayfare Tavern in San Francisco and El Paseo in Mill Valley, California. He also produces wines under his California Crush label, and opened the Tyler Florence Test Kitchen, a culinary laboratory, think tank, and event space, in late 2014. He lives in California with his family.

Jack & Suzy Welch - The Real-Life MBA

Thursday, May 14, 2015 - 7:00pm

Angelico Hall, Dominican University
Tickets: $40 (includes signed book)

Tickets are available at the door!

In the decade since their blockbuster international bestseller Winning was published, Jack and Suzy Welch have dug deeper into business, traveling the world consulting to organizations of every size and in every industry, speaking before hundreds of audiences, working closely with entrepreneurs from Mumbai to Silicon Valley, and, in 2010, starting their own fully accredited online MBA program, which now has approximately 1,000 students enrolled. Over the same time frame, Jack has advised more than seventy-five companies through private equity, and dozens more in a senior advisory role at IAC. Now, they draw on their experiences to address the biggest problems facing modern management—and offer pragmatic solutions to overcome them.

Going beyond theories, concepts, and ideologies, they tackle the real stuff of work today. When you get down to it, they argue, winning in business is all about mastering the gritty, inescapable, make-or-break, real-life dilemmas that define the new economy, the old economy, and everything in between. Work is a grind. We just got whacked. My boss is driving me nuts. I’m stuck in career purgatory. My team has lost its mojo. IT is holding us hostage. Our strategy is outdated the day we launch it. We don’t know what our Chinese partners are talking about. We’re just not growing. These are some of the day-to-day issues the Welches take on. Coupled with Jack’s years of iconic leadership and Suzy’s insights as former editor of the Harvard Business Review, their new database of knowledge infuses The Real-Life MBA with fresh, relevant stories and equally powerful solutions that every manager at any level can use right now.

Jack Welch became the eighth Chairman and CEO of the General Electric Company in 1981, a position he held for twenty years, transforming it into one of the most profitable and admired companies in the world. He is the author of the international bestsellers Jack: Straight from the Gut, and Winning (with Suzy Welch). He is currently the head of Jack Welch, LLC, and in 2010, founded the Jack Welch Management Institute, which offers an Executive MBA and a selection of Executive Certificate programs. He is advisory partner to the private equity firm Clayton, Dubilier & Rice, and fills the same role at Interactive Corporation (IAC).

Suzy Welch is a bestselling author, television commentator, and noted business journalist. The former editor of Harvard Business Review, she attended Harvard University and Harvard Business School, where she graduated as a Baker Scholar. Her latest book, 10-10-10: A Life Transforming Idea, was also a New York Times bestseller. She is on the advisory board of the Jack Welch Management Institute and serves on the board of several non-profit organizations.
