Left Coast Writers® Book Launches Presents Gail Entrekin - Rearrangement of the Invisible

Saturday, November 10, 2012 - 7:00pm
Left Coast Writers® Book Launches at Book Passage in Corte Madera

Gail Rudd Entrekin reads from her newest poetry collection, Rearrangement of the Invisible ($15.00).

These tender heartbreaking poems document a couple's journey through loss.  The small beautifully observed redemptions of domestic life are offered here, as solace and sacrifice.  The whole collection throbs with love.
Alison Luterman
--- See How We Almost Fly (Pearl Poetry Prize)

Part-lyric, part-narrative, part-novella in verse, these poems never stray far from their passionate appetite for life, fear of the unknown, and the titanic thrill and mystery of love. Many of these poems deal with the subtle realities of cancer diagnosis, chemo, the trance states of illness, the “wait and see,” the ”opposite oceans” of waking and dreaming, and the life-defining clarity the threat of death sharpens.  With life’s visible stuff blurring the invisible, still, love – ancient, un-prescribed, redeeming, intuitive – lights up the unseen.
Al Young
--- California poet laureate (2005-2008)

Gail Rudd Entrekin has an M.A. in English Literature from Ohio State University and has taught poetry and English literature at California colleges for 25 years. Poetry Editor of Hip Pocket Press since 2000, she edits the press’ online environmental literary magazine, Canary. Her poems have been widely published in anthologies and literary magazines, including Cimarron Review, Nimrod, Ohio Journal, and Southern Poetry Review, and her poems were finalists for the Pablo Neruda Prize in Poetry from Nimrod International Journal in 2011.  She and her husband live in the hills of San Francisco’s East Bay.

Left Coast Writers®: Patricia Bracewell - Shadow on the Crown

Monday, March 2, 2015 - 7:00pm

Author and Left Coast Writer Patricia Bracewell reads from Shadow on the Crown. In 1002, fifteen-year-old Emma of Normandy crosses the Narrow Sea to wed the much older King Athelred of England, whom she meets for the first time at the church door. Thrust into an unfamiliar and treacherous court, with a husband who mistrusts her, stepsons who resent her and a bewitching rival who covets her crown, Emma must defend herself against her enemies and secure her status as queen by bearing a son. Based on real events recorded in the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle, Shadow on the Crown introduces readers to a fascinating, overlooked period of history and an unforgettable heroine whose quest to find her place in the world will resonate with modern readers.

Patricia Bracewell grew up in California where she taught literature and composition before embarking upon a writing career. This is her first novel. She lives in Oakland, California.

Left Coast Writers® Book Launches Presents Albert Flynn DeSilver - Beamish Boy

Saturday, October 13, 2012 - 7:00pm

Left Coast Writers® Book Launches at Book Passage in Corte Madera

Filled with a luminous cast of characters, and told with searing honesty and ironic wit, Beamish Boy is a redemptive story of survival and letting go, as we follow Albert from one zany adventure and near-death experience to the next. He is run over by his best friend after blacking out in a driveway, contracts malaria in east Africa, and joins a psychedelic “therapy” cult, until he miraculously finds himself, through photography, poetry, and a hilarious awakening at a meditation retreat center, realizing finally, what it means to be fully alive and to truly love.

Beamish Boy charts a compelling spiritual journey, from violence and self-annihilation to creativity and self-realization. Not your typical addiction memoir, Beamish Boy reads more like a witty and poetic novel, offering a profound window into the human condition, complete with its tragedies and ecstasies—illuminating one man’s quest for lasting wisdom.

Albert Flynn DeSilver is an internationally published poet, author, artist, teacher, speaker, and writing coach. He served as the first Poet Laureate of Marin County, California from 2008-2010. Albert is the author of several books of poetry including "Letters to Early Street," and "Walking Tooth & Cloud," and his work has appeared in dozens of literary journals and anthologies worldwide. He presents at literary conferences nationally, directs a homecare agency, and teaches in the Teen and Family program at Spirit Rock Meditation Center near his home in Woodacre, California.

Nautilus Book Award in Science/Cosmology, Independent Publisher Book Award (“IPPY”) in Classical Studies/Philosophy and an Eric Hoffer Book Award

Together you see truths emerge that identify what is most important to the future; a re-definition of human purpose, how best to cope with life's challenges, and what some call a scientific justification for a belief in reincarnation.
