Description

Andra Schwarz's background is Sorbian, a little-known West Slavic minority whose culture and language, as well as the landscape, are increasingly endangered by politics, mining, and assimilation. Her probing, unpunctuated poems explore displacement, marginalization, loss, nature, and memory from personal and collective perspectives. In the forests and hillsides of her native Lusatia, she explores her roots in exquisite language, even as she mourns that "no one comes back this way.
