Description
"Old school hip hop meets old school science fiction in this fun comic." — Polygon
Set in 1980s Brooklyn, a young DJ accidentally summons a UFO that transports his family, best friend, and current crush to the robot-dominated planet of Discopia.
Hip-hop, sci-fi and kung fu all hit the turntables for the mash-up mix of the year! Cartoonist/force of nature Yehudi Mercado (Pantalones, TX, Rocket Salvage) sets his sights on 1980s Brooklyn and Wax, a young mix-master who scratches the perfect beat and accidentally summons a UFO that transports his family, best friend, and current crush to the robot-dominated planet of Discopia. Now Wax and his crew must master the intergalactic musical martial art of Sci-Fu to fight the power and save Earth. Word to your mother.

Praise For…
"A lighthearted tale with black and brown characters, matter-of-fact Brooklyn bilingualism, and a solid message of creating through failure and love."
— Kirkus
"[...] it's Mercado’s artwork that truly puts a fresh spin on this tale; his heavy outlining and bright colorization make his cartoon characters jump off the page, which makes the many action sequences all that more impressive."
— BookList
"His caricatured figures and dynamic layouts, coupled with a neon palette and graffiti flourishes, make for an entertaining story with a little something for everyone: hip-hop, tech-driven action, and romance."
— Publisher's Weekly
"A must have for libraries nationwide."
— School Library Journal
"Yehudi Mercado blends science fiction, kung fu, and hip-hop in Sci-Fu, a unique and entertaining graphic-novel adventure."
— Foreword Reviews
"Old school hip hop meets old school science fiction in this fun comic."
