Class: Karen Benke - Creative Writing Camp for Kids (Corte Madera)

4 Sessions: June 26th - June 29th, 2017 • 9:30 am - 12:30 pm • $220

For 4th, 5th and 6th Graders

A four-session creative writing camp for those interested in playing on and off the page with similes, metaphors, personification, alliteration, convincing dialog, poem-making, story-sketches and MORE. We'll draw from prompts using Rip the Page! and Leap Write In! and will craft and hide notes using Write Back Soon! The workshop is limited to 20 students, and all materials included.


**After a morning of active creating, students will be escorted over to AndrewsCamps for an afternoon of games, crafts, sports, and more!**

Class: Rita LeRoy - Sustainable Gardening for Kids

Ages 8-12 welcome!

Topics for this class include include building healthy soil with the help of earthworms, composting, when to plant vegetables, why to plant flowers, and the importance of pollinators. Children will create a miniature worm box and plant seasonal vegetables and flowers in containers to take home. The instructor will have live specimens of a variety of critters for the children to enjoy seeing and learning about.

Rita LeRoy, best known as “Farmer Rita” has been the Farm Keeper at Loma Vista Farm for 27 years, where she teaches the students about gardening, composting, livestock, and nature. She was a 4-H leader for 25 years. Her college education includes a bachelor’s degree in horticulture and a master’s degree in education. In her free time she is frequently found in the wilderness, documenting and learning about the amazing interconnection of all living organisms.

Darcey Rosenblatt is the author of The Lost Boys, Henry Holt, August 2017. She writes for middle grade and teenage people because she believes at that age stories can be life changing – they were for her.
