Forget all the Black Friday and Cyber Monday hoopla; the real fun this Thanksgiving weekend is at independent bookstores on Small Business Saturday!
Last year, famed author Sherman Alexie issued an “Indies First” challenge to his fellow writers, urging them to spend an “amazing day” at their local bookstore:
We book nerds will become booksellers. We will make recommendations. We will practice nepotism and urge readers to buy multiple copies of our friends’ books.
A great many authors took up the challenge, and now it has become an annual tradition.
Come by our Ferry Building store and schmooze with well-known authors who will be helping out. They may be behind the counter, but they will more likely be out on the floor chatting about books with customers.
We will be joined by some of the authors and illustrators from Cameron & Company publishing. Here are some of the “Booksellers-for-a-shift” that you can expect to meet at the Ferry Building:
9:00am Sara Deseran
Author of Tacolicious and co-owner of the famed SF restaurant.
