Images lie at the heart of the creative process. They are the language of the “middle realm,” a place where literal words don’t yet exist. Depth psychologists believe that images are animate and in this seminar we immerse ourselves in this dynamic language. Dream images, metaphors, fantasies, and images from the natural world will weave their connections through our writing.

Kim Hermanson, Ph.D. is on the faculty of Pacifica Graduate Institute, Meridian University and the Esalen Institute. Her most recent book is Getting Messy: Taking Risks and Opening the Imagination. A past sudents says: “She is a terrific teacher—the discussion of negative space as applied to writing and the creative process has revolutionized how I think about the novel I’m writing.”
