Class: Nina Schuyler - Extraordinary Prose

Six Mondays Jan. 13 - Feb. 17 6:00-8:00pm • $220

You know those favorite sentences? The ones you wish you wrote? In this class, we’ll learn how to craft sentences that flow,
jar, create suspense, or lead your reader to an unexpected place. We’ll draw upon published work, including Faulkner, Conrad, Fitzgerald, and Woolf, and focus on syntax, rhythm, sound, diction, voice, schemes, tropes, and imagery. By the end, you’ll know the power of anaphora, asyndeton, and synecdoche.

Nina Schuyler is the author of the novels The Translator and The Painting, and many short stories. She teaches creative writing in the graduate program at USF.
