A preview of the exhibition opening in February at the Legion of Honor--The first ever study  devoted to the young genius of Claude Monet during the first phase of his long career  featuring over 60 paintings: portraits, still-life and genre  from his Normandy debut in 1858 until 1872 when he settled in Argenteuil.  Influences from Eugene Boudin  and the painters of Barbizon School -- how he absorbed and transformed them--  as well as challenges posed by his friends Manet, Pissarro and Renoir with  some highly original results.

Kerrin Meis taught art history at SFSU for ten years, and she currently teaches for the OLLI programs at Dominican University and UC Berkeley. She leads study tours in Europe. Her Book Passage classes have been big favorites for years.
