Class: Kerrin Meis - Inventing Impressionism: Paul Durand-Ruel and the Art Maker

Friday, October 30, 2015 - 10:00am

Two Fridays: Oct. 30 & Nov. 6 • 10:00 am – 12:00 pm • $75

Learn how a perceptive Paris dealer discovered artists held in contempt by critics and the public alike, exhibited their works and shaped an audience by publishing art reviews, arranging solo exhibits and giving generous stipends to Renoir, Monet, Degas, Sisley, Cassatt and others. This included taking their works at his own expense to London, Germany and America. Admire masterpieces we would never have seen were it not for this unrepentant risk taker.

Kerrin Meis taught art history at SFSU for ten years and now lectures for the College of Marin and Dominican University and leads study tours in Europe. Her Book Passage classes have been big favorites for years.
