Class: Emily Marks - Altered Books (Corte Madera)

Sat., Oct. 28  • 10:00 am - 3:00 pm • $120

Libraries regularly clean out and dispose of old books, to make room for the new. What to do with those old books and keep them out of the landfill?  Re-purpose them into delightful works of art, to be treasured for years to come! Join Emily Marks as she guides you through transforming old books and printed materials, into brand new art pieces. Creations will not be limited to the conventional book but encompass a range from journals to altars. Students will learn skills and techniques that are applicable to other sculptures such as painting on paper, collage, weaving, sewing, embroidering, and cutting and sanding. This class is for all levels of experience.  Students are encouraged to bring items of their choice to incorporate into their project.

Emily Marks earned her BA in English literature and has always loved books. In 2006 she consolidated her art credits with an AA degree in the arts from College of Marin. Emily has taught at the Sonoma County Museum, The Sonoma Valley Museum, the Petaluma Art Center and the Marin Museum of Contemporary Art. Her art work has been shown nationally and internationally. In 21012, she published her book Thread Loves Paper, sold through Book Passage and on the web.
