Joseph Zaccardi, the incoming Poet Laureate of Marin County, and C.B. Follett, the outgoing Laureate will present an evening of poems. Both have new poetry books coming out: Nine Gradations of Light (Zaccardi), and Of Gravity and Tides (Follett). Follett will speak on her programs, specifically ROAR and Poetry Exchange Boxes, and Zaccardi will talk about plans for his Laureate project.
Born in Newark, New Jersey, poetry came late to Joseph Zaccardi at the age of thirteen. His publications include Vents, Render, and The Nine Gradations of Light. In 2003, he received an Individual Artist Grant from the Marin Arts Council, and from 2010 to 2012 was editor of the Marin Poetry Center Anthology. He was appointed Poet Laureate of Marin County, CA in 2013 for a two-year term. Since 1987, he has lived in Fairfax, tossing seeds from an imaginary apple tree.
C.B. Follett is, by roots, a Connecticut Yankee. But she has been in California for so long, her roots are confused. Of Gravity and Trees is her eighth book of poems, as well as several chapbooks. She is Publisher and Editor of Arctos Press, which among many titles, published Beside the Sleeping Maiden: Poets of Marin; and GRRRRR: A Collection of Poems About Bears.
Both have received Poetry Grants from the Marin Arts Council and are members of the Marin Poetry Center.
Poetry. "Joseph Zaccardi writes about what is relevant to all of us death, and therefore life; desire, time, distance, myth versus fact, war and its consequences. THE NINE GRADATIONS OF LIGHT is a gift, a lyrical journey into how people have dealt with these connections through the ages." Stephanie Mendel.
