In Ghost Image, Sophie Medina, now a successful freelance photographer, has agreed to photograph the upcoming wedding of Washington’s newest celebrity couple: Austrian Archduke Victor Haupt-von Véssey and Yasmin Gilberti, the stunning daughter of the influential Senator Ursula Gilberti.  While at the engagement party, Sophie notices tension between the royal groom and his young fiancée and quickly realizes that her good friend Brother Kevin Boyle, a Franciscan friar and high-profile environmentalist, has made the same observation.  The next day Kevin reveals some unsettling news to Sophie about his latest botanical research project, but refuses to elaborate—hours later he is found dead in what everyone except Sophie believes to be an accident.

Determined to find Kevin’s killer and armed with only a mysterious key he dropped on the day he died, Sophie soon discovers that her friend was hiding a priceless seventeenth-century encyclopedia of plants.  Before long she is at the center of a perilous and complex search for a long-lost piece of American history with ties to London’s oldest garden, the Founding Fathers, and the 1814 burning of the White House.  The danger intensifies as Sophie navigates a labyrinth of politics, betrayal, and greed. What botanical secret is worth a human life, and more importantly, who would commit murder to get to it?

Ellen Crosby is the author of six books in the Virginia wine country mystery series: The Sauvignon Secret, The Viognier Vendetta, The Riesling Retribution, The Bordeaux Betrayal, The Chardonnay Charade, and The Merlot Murders. She also wrote Moscow Nights, a stand-alone novel published in London.
