Bette & J.J. Lamb and Margaret Lucke - An Afternoon in Conversation (Corte Madera)

Sunday, September 17, 2017 - 4:00pm

In Bone Slice, Gina and Harry have barely unpacked from an idyllic beach wedding and honeymoon on romantic Kauai when Ridgewood Hospital sends them off on an intriguing assignment to learn about and report on surgical robotics at a Santa Cruz area hospital. Intrigue turns to fear as they’re plunged into the midst of a deadly clash between hands-on-medicine traditionalists and those eager to dive headlong into the futurist whirlpool of robotics. The newlyweds are harassed, threatened, and kidnapped as a result of their efforts to discover who is hacking the robotic units and causing bloody mayhem in the surgery suites. Gina and Harry eventually report back to Ridgewood that robots are not only accurate, fast, and efficient, they can also be used to commit murder.

Bette Golden Lamb & & J. J. Lamb have co-authored a dozen crime novels, plus a few other individual fiction titles as both books and short stories. Bette is not only a writer, she’s an award-winning painter, sculptor, and ceramist. She’s also an RN and knows Gina Mazzio quite well.  J. J. has spent his entire career behind a keyboard as journalist, freelance writer, editor, and fiction author, plus, when the occasion demands, he’s a competent jack-of-all-trades. The Lambs have lived in Virginia, New Mexico, New York, Nevada, and currently make their home in Northern California. If you see them at a writers’ conference, or anyplace else, say Hello!

In Snow Angel, on the eve of a high-profile murder trial, a 7-year-old girl disappears — the daughter of the San Francisco cop who is the star witness. Was Amy kidnapped to derail the trial, or has one of her feuding parents hidden her away? Artist/private detective Jess Randolph joins the frantic search for the girl she thinks of as a sister. When a would-be rescuer dies violently, fears rise that Amy is in the hands of a killer. Jess must risk her life and confront her darkest fears as she races time to find the child before it’s too late. The hunt takes her from San Francisco to the snowbound Sierra, and deep into the hearts of two shattered families.

Margaret Lucke flings words around as a writer and editorial consultant in the San Francisco Bay Area. An earlier Jess Randolph novel, A Relative Stranger, was nominated for an Anthony Award. She is also the author of House of Whispers, a tale of love, ghosts and murder on the Marin County coast, and two how-to books on writing, Schaum’s Quick Guide to Writing Great Short Stories and Writing Mysteries. A former president of the Northern California chapter of Mystery Writers of America, she teaches fiction writing classes for UC Berkeley Extension and other venues. Visit her at
