Class: Melanie Vetter - Deepening Connections: Legacy Letter Writing Workshop (Corte Madera)

Saturday, February 3, 2018 - 10:00am

Sat., February 3 • 10:00 am - 1:00 pm • $75

Legacy Letters allow you to share wisdom, traditions, values, blessings and love with people special to you. They are tangible objects, things people can return to again and again—and they do. If you hear Legacy Letters and think of wills or estates, there’s more to it than that. Legacy Letters don’t have to be connected to wealth or even end of life. Legacy Letters are for any time you want to deepen a connection with someone special in your life. With Legacy Letters, you can pass on special family stories and traditions, recognize major milestones such as a wedding, a birthday or a graduation in a meaningful way, share the stories and reasons behind gifts to others, and know you have said what is important. In this workshop, I will show you how to write your own Legacy Letters in four easy steps and you will have the opportunity to write one your self.

Melanie Vetter is the founder of Wellfleet Circle. Melanie's life’s work is dedicated to teaching and empowering others to celebrate, document and share a purposeful life using fun and joyful tools and techniques.  She helps others preserve and share  their intangible wealth—traditions, wisdom, values, stories and love. Melanie is a Harvard Law School trained attorney and business professional and a certified Legacy Advisor. She holds a certificate in Guided Autobiography Instruction from the Birren Center for Autobiographical Studies, and is also a Certified Senior Advisor®.

Class:  Kerrin Meis - Post-Impressionism: What Does it Mean? (Corte Madera)

Friday, February 9, 2018 - 1:00pm

Three Fridays; Feb. 9, Feb. 16, & Feb. 23, 2018 • 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm • $105

The term, invented by a British art critic, really only means that which follows Impressionism. It is not a style of painting. We study the works of a diverse group of artists including  Seurat, Signac,  Cezanne, Gauguin, Van Gogh and Toulouse-Lautrec: While these  artists laid the groundwork for a  modern art based on concepts, process and emotion rather than on a direct visual  response to  reality ,they point to vastly different directions the world of art would take .Seurat's pointillism influenced Fauvism; Cezanne's experiments with space inspired Cubism; in contrast to these scientific approaches the introspective paintings of Gauguin and Van Gogh paved the way to Symbolism and Expressionism. Toulouse-Lautrec posters are the very essence of Art-Nouveau.

Kerrin Meis taught art history at SFSU for ten years, and she currently teaches for the OLLI programs at Dominican University and UC Berkeley. She leads study tours in Europe. Her Book Passage classes have been big favorites for years.

Saturday, February 17, 2018 - 10:00am

Saturday Feb. 17, 2018 • 10:00 am- 4:00 pm • $105

Have you started a book but haven't been able to finish it? Do you feel like you have all the pieces but don't know how to stitch them together? Do you feel overwhelmed, blocked, or stuck? In You Can Complete That Book!, you will learn the reasons writers get stuck, and how to get back in the flow, write effortlessly, find solutions for structural issues, navigate the publication process and ultimately complete the book.

Writing challenges us to face our core issues. As a result we become experts at procrastination, perfectionism, or simply making sure we are always too busy to finish. Underneath all these defenses, there is gold: the nugget of pure creativity waiting to be expressed once you learn how to make room for it to be revealed.

Leslie Keenan is a writing coach, teacher and editor with 30 years' experience. She lives in Marin County, California with her daughter.

A close look of the works and lives of artists who inspired each other  from Vasily Kandinsky and Gabriele Muenter to Julia Kleinhans Mathews and Arthur Mathews. Was their most brilliant work created while they were together or was parting company  an opportunity for growth?  We study Natalia Goncharova and Mikhail Larionov, Sonia Terk- Delaunay and Robert Delaunay, Van Gogh and Gauguin, Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo, Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant, Max Ernst and Leonora Carrington, and others all considered in the context of the artistic  milieu in which they worked.
