Here Comes Teacher Cat
Cat is not pleased to be tapped as substitute teacher. Not only is it cutting into his naptime, but a roomful of kittens is a little, well, scary. At school, he’s faced with six adorable kittens and follows the lesson plan of music, building, and painting—only in pure, mischief-making Cat style. By the end, Cat has learned a thing or two about inspiring others by being himself.

Super Saurus Saves Kindergarten
When Arnold has concerns about the first day of school (what if the teacher turns out to be the villain, Zorgo?), he sends his alter ego, Super Saurus, to kindergarten instead. His teacher Mr. Z welcomes both Arnold and his super-sized imagination, and when classroom events take a surprising turn, Super Saurus saves the day.

Story Time: Michael Genhart - Books for Nourishing Friendships (Corte Madera)

Saturday, November 4, 2017 - 11:00am

Special Children's Event!

Join author Michael Genhart for a storytime filled with a selection of his beloved picture books, including...

Peanut Butter & Jellyous
This is a story about two friends -- Peanut Butter and Jelly. When Peanut Butter wants to branch out and discover new friends, Jelly gets very...jealous! The kids are the problem-solvers and decide that they can explore new friendships while still preserving the one they have. This playful read-aloud book teaches kids that there's room for plenty of friendships in life. Includes a "Note to Parents, Caregivers, and Educators" about noticing the signs of jealousy and what they can do to help.

Mac & Geeeez!
This is a whimsical story about a friend who wants to be the center of attention but tries in all of the wrong ways. Mac loves hanging out with Cheese when it's just the two of them, but when Cheese is around other people, he starts to annoy Mac. Cheese tries too hard to be popular by acting like someone he's not. When Mac explains that it's better to just be himself, Cheese realizes that being real is what it's all about! Includes a "Note to Parents, Caregivers, and Educators" with information about what it means to be yourself and what they can do to help.

Cake & I Scream!
Cake & I Scream! is a story about a friend who tries to get his way by being bossy and loud. Cake and Ice Cream are best friends, but Cake starts to notice that when Ice Cream wants something, he wants it right now! It becomes annoying to everyone else, and Ice Cream soon realizes that screaming at others is a quick way to lose friends. This story shows that friends bring out the best in each other, if you let them! Includes a "Note to Parents, Caregivers, and Educators" about negotiating friendship issues.

So Many Smarts!
So Many Smarts! introduces kids to a variety of "smarts" and teaches that them there is more than one way to be smart. It encourages readers to look at their own combination of brain power and skills to determine how they might learn best, excel, and be themselves. Based on the theory of multiple intelligences, this book shows kids that all of the different skills they have require various types of smarts as well as how they can celebrate their differences. A "Note to Parents, Caregivers, and Educators" offers more information about the different smarts outlined in the book and ways to support children exploring their unique strengths.

I See You
I See You is a wordless picture book that depicts a homeless woman who is unseen by everyone around her—except for a little boy. Over the course of a year, the boy is witness to all that she endures. Ultimately, in a gesture of compassion, the boy acknowledges her through an exchange in which he sees her and she experiences being seen. This book opens the door for kids and parents to begin a conversation about homelessness. In a "Note for Parents, Educators, and Neighbors," there are discussion questions and additional resources about helping the homeless.

A healthy ocean is home to many different kinds of animals. They can be big, like a whale, tiny, like a shrimp, and even scary, like a shark. Even though sharks can be scary, we need them to keep the oceans healthy. Unfortunately, due to overfishing, many shark species are in danger of extinction, and that can cause big problems in the oceans and even on land. What would happen if this continued and sharks disappeared completely?

In If Sharks Disappeared, artist Lily Williams explores how the disappearance would affect other animals across the whole planet and details the importance of keeping sharks, and our oceans, healthy.

Lily Williams is an author, illustrator, and storyteller who seeks to inspire change through education. Her work covers many topics, from the trophic cascade in the award-winning animated documentary short film FINconceivable, to menstruation in the webcomic The Mean Magenta and upcoming graphic novel, Go With The Flow (First Second, 2019). Lily believes in the power of making information fun, educational, and accessible for all audiences. Lily grew up in Northern California where she graduated from California College of the Arts with a B.F.A. in Animation. She spent time working in feature film animation in Los Angeles before diving into freelance full time. When she isn’t creating, Lily can be found dreaming about the smell of cold winter air, listening for the sound of airplanes on a rainy day, playing with her rescue rabbits (Owen and Oliver), and perfecting her waffle recipe.

F.C. Yee - The Epic Crush of Genie Lo (Sausalito)

Tuesday, August 8, 2017 - 6:00pm

Special Teen Event!

The struggle to get into a top-tier college consumes sixteen-year-old Genie's every waking thought. But when she discovers she's a celestial spirit who's powerful enough to bash through the gates of heaven with her fists, her perfectionist existence is shattered.

Enter Quentin, a transfer student from China whose tone-deaf assertiveness beguiles Genie to the brink of madness. Quentin nurtures Genie's bodacious transformation-sometimes gently, sometimes aggressively-as her sleepy suburb in the Bay Area comes under siege from hell-spawn.

The Epic Crush of Genie Lo draws from Chinese folklore, features a larger-than-life heroine, and perfectly balances the realities of Genie's grounded high school life with the absurd supernatural world she finds herself commanding.

F. C. Yee grew up in New Jersey and studied economics at Brown University. For his debut novel, he drew inspiration from the best and wisest people in his life. Outside of writing, he practices capoeira, a Brazilian form of martial arts. He currently calls the San Francisco Bay Area home.
