Cooks with Books

Cooks with Books events take place at Bay Area restaurants. Attendees attend a meal that is prepared under the supervision of a local or celebrity chef (and since the Bay Area is one of the world's culinary capitals, that often means both!). Throughout the meal, the author-chef mingles with attendees and discusses his or her latest book. Coffee and conversation usually end about two hours later. These are happy, convivial events for any lover of fine food and wine. The ticket price includes the meal, wine, tax, tip & a signed copy of the author’s book.

If you missed seeing Hugh Acheson as a competitor on Top Chef you may still recognize him from being a judge for 4 seasons on Top Chef. Or you may have eaten at one of his many restaurants in Georgia like Five and Ten, The National, Empire State South or The Florence. In his new cookbook, The Broad Fork: Recipes for a Wide World of Vegetables and Fruits, Acheson guides readers to over 50 farmer's market favorites from apples to yacon (yes yacon) and has written 200 recipes for pickles, salads, roasts, purees, and sautes.  His recipes include Griddled Asparagus with Piperade, Poached Eggs and Grits  or Sea Scallops with Buttered Kraut and Pecan Brown Butter or Roasted Pork Tenderloin with Bok Choy, Curried Tomatoes and Avocado.
