Let There Be Peace on Earth and Let It Begin with Me
These cherished words have sounded a call for peace the world over since 1955. The song of the same name has echoed through schools and churches, community centers and summer camps, the White House, and meetings of the United Nations. It has touched hearts from South Africa to New Zealand, from Russia to Japan. "Let There Be Peace on Earth" has been recorded and performed by countless singers including Nat King Cole, Gladys Knight, Vince Gill, and many more.
Now available for the first time as a picture book, Jill Jackson and Sy Miller's lyrics have been beautifully interpreted by Caldecott Medal-winning artist David Diaz. Diaz's luminous illustrations, featuring peace symbols from many cultures, and a 12-track audio CD introduce this beloved song and its valuable message to a new generation.
About the Author
JILL JACKSON is a "tell it like it is" kind of gal who is happiest when she's working with educators in the field to simplify and power-up their school improvement work. Her motto is, "You have everything you need to get the job done, you just need to do the job differently." When she's not blogging twice weekly at www.jackson-consulting.com or writing for EdNews 360 and Education News, she's racking up frequent flyer miles on her way to her next speaking gig, client coaching session or JC Team mastermind...all while figuring out how to beat her personal best for getting through the security line at LAX.
David Diaz has illustrated numerous award-winning books for children, including "Smoky Night" by Eve Bunting, for which he was awarded the Caldecott Medal; "The Wanderer" by Sharon Creech, which received a Newbery Honor; and "Diego: Bigger Than Life" by Carmen T. Bernier-Grand, a Pura Belpre Honor Award winner. An illustrator and graphic designer for more than twenty-five years, he is also a painter and an accomplished ceramic artist. Mr. Diaz lives in Carlsbad, California.
In 1955, (Sy) Miller and (Jill) Jackson created this popular ballad, which has since been recorded by numerous artists and performed around the world. Diaz, whose credits include a Caldecott for Smoky Night (1994), has created sumptuous and colorful computer-generated artwork in his bold signature style to accompany these inspirational lyrics. —Booklist magazine
