Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra (1547 -1616) Es considerado la maxima figura de la literatura espanola y universalmente conocido por haber escrito Don Quijote de la Mancha, que muchos criticos han descrito como la primera novela moderna y una de las mejores obras de la literatura universal. En 1605 publica la primera parte del Quijote, pero el exito dura poco. En sus ultimos anos publica las "Novelas ejemplares" (1613), el "Viaje del Parnaso" (1614), "Ocho comedias y ocho entremeses" (1615) y la segunda parte del Quijote (1615). El triunfo literario no lo libro de sus penurias economicas. Dedico sus ultimos meses de vida a "Los trabajos de Persiles y Segismunda" (de publicacion postuma, en 1617). Murio en Madrid el 23 de abril de 1616 y fue enterrado de caridad.
Tobias George Smollett (19 March 1721 - 17 September 1771) was a Scottish poet and author. He was best known for his picaresque novels, such as The Adventures of Roderick Random (1748) and The Adventures of Peregrine Pickle (1751), which influenced later novelists such as Charles Dickens. George Orwell admired Smollett very much. His novels were amended liberally by printers; a definitive edition of each of his works was edited by Dr. O. M. Brack, Jr. to correct variants.
Robert Whitfield, a graduate of the University of Missouri School of Journalism and an honors graduate of the Columbia University School of Law, practiced as a corporate lawyer with the Wall Street firm of Milbank Tweed Hadley & McCloy before entering the field of investment banking with Schroders Ltd., a leading merchant bank located in London. He subsequently served as Vice President of Schroder Capital Corporation in New York and General Counsel of First Pennsylvania Corporation, a major American bank holding company located in Philadelphia. In 1981 he organized Robert Whitfield Associates Incorporated, a management consulting firm in the field of professional service organizations, now located in Chicago. Robert Whitfield has also been a serious fine arts photographer for many years and is currently preparing to publish books of his photography of the architecture of Chicago and the ruins of Windsor Plantation, his family's antebellum home in Port Gibson, Mississippi, which is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
