Three friends, Dog, Cat, and Mouse, live happily—or so they think—in their beach hut by the sea until one night a mysterious Stranger, bearing gifts from the Winds of Change Trading Company, blows into their little world and turns it upside down. Soon Dog, Cat, and Mouse are fighting with each other. Is the foxy Stranger a troublemaker or does he mean well? And will Dog, Cat, and Mouse ever be happy again?
Children will find this thought-provoking picture book of true friendship from award-winning Mini Grey, author of Traction Man Is Here! and Traction Man Meets Turbodog, deeply satifying, a story they'll want to hear—and discuss—again and again.
About the Author
Lyn Gardner is a theater critic for "The Guardian "and goes to the theater five or six nights a week, which should leave no time for writing books at all. Prior to joining "The Guardian, "she was a tea lady, a waitress, sold (or failed to sell) advertising space for a magazine called "Sludge, "wrote for "The Independent, "and helped found the London listings magazine, "City Limits, "the largest publishing co-op in Europe.
Mini Grey's last picture book, "Traction Man Is Here!," won the 2005 "Boston Globe-Horn Book "Award and received five starred reviews.
"Grey, one of the more inventive picture-book creators working these days , offers a beguiling little parable."
Starred Review, Kirkus Reviews, March 1, 2011:
"Grey’s wonderfully expressive, richly textured mixed-media collages leap and bound with funny details (like the "All-Purpose Flakes" box in the kitchen, perfect for both baking and bathing). Vivacious design elements such as comic-strip–like panels for action sequences and cut strips of type for the dialogue in the climactic fight add further fun. The clear, clever text—rendered in a large font—is as fresh and invigorating as the rest."
