In this final volume of his diaries, the capstone of a million-word masterwork, Isherwood greets advancing age with poignant humor and an unquenchable appetite for the new; even aches, illnesses, and diminishing powers are clues to a predicament still unfathomed. Around his private religious and domestic routines orbit gifted friends both anonymous and infamous. Christopher Isherwood (1904-1986) was one of the most prominent writers of his generation. He is the author of many works of fiction, including All the Conspirators, The Memorial, Mr. Norris Changes Trains, and Goodbye to Berlin, on which the musical Cabaret was based, as well as works of nonfiction and biography.
Katherine Bucknell is the author of +1, as well as three previous novels, Canarino, Leninsky Prospekt, and What You Will. She is currently at work on a biography of Christopher Isherwood. She is the editor of his Diaries, in four volumes, and The Animals, letters between Isherwood and his partner, Don Bachardy. She also edited W.H. Auden's Juvenilia: Poems 1922-1928. She has degrees from Princeton, Oxford and Columbia Universities. Born in Saigon and raised in Washington, D.C., she now lives in London with her husband, Bob Maguire, and their three children.
Edmund White is the author of the novels Fanny: A Fiction, A Boy's Own Story, The Farewell Symphony, and The Married Man; a biography of Jean Genet; a study of Marcel Proust; and, most recently, a memoir, My Lives. Having lived in Paris for many years, he has now settled in New York, and he teaches at Princeton University.
